الفليّو هو نوع من النعناع البري معروف عندنا خاصة بــ "حلوة الفليّو".

اسم النبتة من كلمة pulegium اللاتينية ومرادفها pūlēium (من pulex القمل لاعتقادهم قدرتها على مقاومة القمل في الشعر برائحتها القوية) ومن هذا الأصل تفرعت العديد من أسماء متوسطية لنبتة الفليّو فهي menthe pouliot بالفرنسية و menta poleggio بالإيطالية. أمّا الكلمة الأقرب لنا فهي الاسبانية poleo مع تغيير حرف P بحرف الباء أو الفاء على عادة اللغتين الأمازيغية والعربية. 

 ولست أدري إن كانت كلمة فليّو مأخوذة مباشرة من اللاتينية أو لاحقا من الاسبانية.

Flayou, espèce de menthe. Tout comme le français menthe pouliot, l'italien menta poleggio, le mot flayou vient du mot latin pulegium ou pūlēium, lui-même dérivé de pulex au sens de pou, vu la capacité présumée de la plante à chasser ces bestioles. Toutefois, le mot tunisien pourrait avoir été emprunté à l'espagnol poleo (de la même origine latine) grâce à l'habituel remplacement de la lettre P soit par un b soit par un f dans les langues arabe et amazigh.

Flayou, a species of mint (probably pennyroyal). As with the French menthe pouliot and the Italian menta poleggio, the Tunisian word flayou is from the Latin word pulegium or pūlēium, from pulex meaning louse, based on the belief that the plant was capable of ridding people of these pests. The Tunisian  word flayou could also have been borrowed from the Spanish poleo (of the same Latin origin) with the letter P being replaced by a b or an f, as is the custom in Arabic and Amazigh.
